The Goal Zero Yeti 3000 Lithium which was showcased with great fanfare at CES 2017 is finally on sale and we are delighted to give it a good going over. This is Goal Zero’s most powerful Solar Power Station, by far its largest solar generator offering eclipsing its super powerful predecessors the Goal Zero Yeti 1400 (Read the review of Goal Zero Yeti 1400) and the Goal Zero Yeti 1250 (Read the review of Goal Zero Yeti 1250) .

Goal Zero Yeti 3000 Lithium Overview

The square shape and rounded edges of the Goal Zero family are the familiar contours of the Goal Zero Yeti 3000 as well. It comes in two variants, one is just the power station standalone and the second variant comes with the included Boulder 300 solar panel  panel kit : the Goal Zero Yeti 3000 Lithium Portable Power Station Kit with Boulder 200 Briefcase Solar Panel.

The new Yeti 3000, has a powerful 3024 watt hour lithium ion battery built with the new high performance 18650 lithium cells; these cells are known for increased stability vis a vis the flat pack cells found in cell phones and laptops. The battery is rated at 280.8 amp hour capacity at 10.95 volts. A Texas Instruments battery management system controls the Yeti 3000 and ensures no over charging, over current or short circuit ever damages the generator or its batteries.

The AC inverter produces 1500 watts of continuous pure sine wave output at 10 amps which will take care of the most sensitive electronic devices as well as the largest power tools.  The  120 volt AC 60Hz device can provide surge capacity of 3000 watts making it one of the larger heavy duty solar generators.

The front panel of the Yeti 3000 is organized with the usual efficient and ergonomic Yeti design aesthetic. There are 4 USB ports that provide 2.4 amps each with total output maxing out at 12 watts.   It has two 110V AC outputs, the usual array of built-in AC sockets, and 12V DC outlets.

The larger capacity adds weight to the solar power station kit and Goal Zero has compensated for its 68 lbs weight by adding a dolly cart attachment. The dolly cart is and excellent addition and makes the relatively heavy 68 pound unit easy to carry around. The cart has rugged wheels and a detachable telescoping handle.

The Yeti 3000 will take phone charging, laptop charging, cameras and drones in its stride. It is quite capable of powering a refrigerator, a blender and power tools as well. And unlike the gas generator cousins, we have no fumes, no odors and no maintenance.

The fastest way to charge the Goal Zero Yeti 3000 would be by using solar panels like the Boulder 200 watts. These could charge it in potentially just 6 hours provided you have two sets of solar panels and they get bright sunlight for the whole time (The Yeti 3000 kit with solar panels comes with one set of solar panels).  You could potentially use other brands of solar panels and buy them separately. However, make sure the output voltage of the solar panels does not exceed 22 volts. Regular charging is also available from a wall outlet and that will take about about 18 hours. The worst option would be using a 12 volt power source like your car and that would take a full  44 hours to charge the Goal Zero Yeti 3000.

Other features and charging capacity : Yeti 3000

The Goal Zero Yeti 3000 can power a light bulb for over 625 hours or keep that medium sized fridge running for a full 6o hours or give you 30 plus hours of TV and Netflix time ( assuming your TV is smart and has a Netflix subscription). Other safety features incorporated into the unit are an advanced cooling system that regulates the units core temperature within its specified safety range.

The Yeti 3000 is built to work for a broad variety of customers ; campers will be able to use it on very long trips without worrying about suffering a power shortage; RV owners will find its power capacity reassuring and available for long journeys and survivalists and tailgaters wont find the generator wanting either. The long lasting lithium batteries, its superb design, multitude of inputs and outputs and the the easy portability of the unit make this a highly desirable solar power station.

There are non Goal Zero alternatives you can consider to power your Yeti 3000. Here is a potential solar panel to partner with the Yeti 3000 generators : the Eco Worthy 100W panel plus charge controller to have a fail safe source of charging the unit. There are more choices available on Amazon, but the Eco worthy panel and charger come with good reviews.
