Enphase vs SolarEdge — Which Inverter Is Right for Your Home?
May 9, 20267 Solar Battery Mistakes That Will Cost You Thousands — NJ Guide
May 20, 2026My Solar Home started because I got tired of watching homeowners make $30,000 decisions based on misleading information from commission-driven salespeople. After 15 years in the industry and 1,675+ completed installations, I knew exactly what good solar looked like — and how rarely it was being offered honestly.
I’ve talked to thousands of homeowners on YouTube and in person. The questions never change: What will this actually cost? How long until it pays back? Is the company I’m hiring going to be around in year 10 when I need service? This site — and this business — exist to answer those questions with real numbers, not marketing copy.
Who I Am
I’m Anjan Saikia — most people know me as Jon, which is the name I use on YouTube and with my customers. I have a BS in Physics from St. Stephen’s College at Delhi University and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow — both considered Ivy League-equivalent institutions in India. I didn’t get into solar by accident.
The physics background means I understand how panels actually work — efficiency ratings, temperature coefficients, shading losses, inverter clipping — not just the marketing version. The MBA means I run this like a real business: financially sound, operationally tight, and built to still be here when your system needs service in year 15. Most solar salespeople can’t explain why a panel’s temperature coefficient matters in a New Jersey summer. I can, and it shows up in how I design every system.
What My Solar Home Is
A residential solar installation company serving New Jersey and Bucks County PA with my own experienced crew. I personally review every savings estimate and oversee every installation. Two licensed electricians and two installation crews — all working together for 15 years. No call centers. The same high standards on every job.
My Solar Home is not a national solar company with a regional franchise. It’s not a lead-generation service that hands your name to whoever is paying for referrals that month. It’s me and a crew I’ve trusted for 15 years, installing systems I’d put on my own house.
The Crew
Every installation runs with the same team. Darren and Fernando are the licensed electricians — both certified, both running their own independent businesses, both working with me for over 15 years. Luis is the foreman, running the installation crews with the same precision on every job. Two solar installation crews round out the team, all licensed, bonded, and insured in NJ and PA.
These aren’t workers I found last month. They’re friends. Professionals who’ve been doing this together long enough that they know exactly what a quality installation looks like — and won’t cut corners to get to the next job faster. That’s what 15 years of working with the same people looks like. Not a revolving door of unfamiliar faces on your roof.
It’s also why I can say, honestly, that My Solar Home has one of the most experienced installation crews in the state. Not based on company revenue or marketing spend — based on the number of systems this specific team has put up together.
The YouTube Channel
The MySolarHome YouTube channel has 8,300+ subscribers — homeowners researching solar who want a straight answer instead of a pitch. I cover panels, batteries, inverters, financing, and the specific traps that national solar companies set for buyers who don’t know what to watch for.
No sponsored content. No affiliate commission built into the panel or battery recommendations. When I say a specific product is worth buying — or worth avoiding — it’s because of what I’ve seen in the field over 15 years and 1,675+ installs. Not because a manufacturer is paying me to say it. That’s why the channel works. Viewers trust it because it’s not trying to sell them anything.
The Philosophy
Solar is a 25-year decision. The company you hire should still be around in year 10 when a panel needs replacing or an inverter throws a fault code. The system they design should be sized for your actual usage — not padded to hit a monthly payment number that looks good in a presentation. The inverters they install should carry a warranty as long as the panels they’re connected to.
These aren’t complicated standards. They’re just rarely met by the companies doing most of the marketing. I’ve seen what happens when a homeowner goes with a national company that offered them the lowest monthly lease payment — and then that company changes ownership, closes a regional office, or simply stops returning calls. A solar system you own outright, installed by a crew you can actually reach, is a fundamentally different product than a 25-year agreement with a corporation.
What I Won’t Do
I won’t show up with a laptop full of financing slides and no actual quote. I won’t tell you the payback period is 4 years when the real number is 8. I won’t recommend a 12kW system for a house that needs 7kW because it makes the sale bigger. I won’t hide the cost of a battery behind “it’s basically free with incentives” language.
I also won’t use high-pressure close tactics. If you need 30 days to think it over, take 30 days. Solar is a significant investment and the right decision is to understand it fully before you sign anything. I’ve been doing this long enough that I don’t need to pressure anyone — the work speaks for itself.
NJ Solar Incentives — What’s Actually Worth Your Attention
The incentive landscape for NJ homeowners changed at the end of 2025. The 30% federal residential solar tax credit expired on December 31, 2025. It’s gone. Anyone quoting you a payback period that includes the federal credit is using outdated math — ask them to redo the numbers.
What’s still active — and significant — is the NJ SuSI program. Every solar system registered in New Jersey earns SREC-II certificates through the Successor Solar Incentive program. The current residential rate is $85 per SREC-II (one certificate per MWh produced), locked in for 15 years from your registration date. On a typical NJ home, that adds up to $1,000–1,500 per year in SREC income depending on system size and production.
NJ homeowners also get full retail net metering — PSE&G, JCP&L, and ACE all participate — a complete property tax exemption on the solar-related increase in home value, and a full sales tax exemption on equipment and installation. That combination makes NJ one of the stronger solar markets in the country. Payback periods of 7–8 years are realistic for most homes when you run the numbers honestly.
How the Process Works
I keep it simple. You submit your monthly electric bill — or your annual kWh usage if you have it. I check your address, roof angle, and shading, then run the actual numbers. You get a savings estimate that shows what a correctly sized system would save you, including NJ SuSI income, net metering credits, and realistic production based on your specific location and roof.
I follow up within 2 hours. Not a call center rep reading a script — me directly. If the numbers work, we schedule a site visit. If they don’t, I’ll tell you that too. There’s no version of this process where I show you a number that looks good on paper but doesn’t hold up in the real world.
Real Numbers From Real Installations
If you want to see what these systems actually cost before you submit anything, I’ve published three real NJ installations on the case study page — full specs, verified payback calculations, and 25-year projections. Two solar-only systems and one with a Tesla Powerwall 3. The math is all there, unvarnished.
NJ and Bucks County PA Coverage
My Solar Home serves all of New Jersey — from Cherry Hill and Toms River to Princeton and Parsippany. Bucks County PA homeowners in Doylestown, Newtown, Warminster, Langhorne, and Yardley get the same crew, the same standards, and the same personal follow-up from me.
For homeowners in other states, I work with a vetted national partner network — companies that operate under the same quality standards and that I would refer a family member to. The solar savings estimator on this site routes NJ and Bucks County PA inquiries directly to me, and out-of-state inquiries to the right partner for your area.
